Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash Yatra – Overview

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is one of the most sacred and adventurous pilgrimages in the Himalayas, located in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.

This 6-night/ 7 days trek begins from Jaon (Baga Sarahan) and passes through alpine forests, steep mountain trails, scenic meadows, and high-altitude camps such as Thachdu, Kunsha, and Bhimdwar.

The journey offers breathtaking Himalayan views along with a spiritually enriching experience as devotees trek to the holy Shrikhand Mahadev Shivling for darshan.

The trek is moderately to highly challenging and is best suited for physically fit pilgrims and adventure lovers.

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra – Detailed Itinerary

Day 0: Delhi → Rampur Bushahr
  • Departure from Delhi by Volvo / private vehicle in the evening/night
  • Overnight journey towards Rampur Bushahr
  • Travel through scenic river valleys, mountain roads, and Himalayan foothills
  • Rest during the journey while gradually ascending into higher altitude regions

Overnight journey to Rampur Bushahr

Day 1: Rampur Bushahr → Jaon Village
  • Arrival at Rampur Bushahr in the morning
  • Freshen up and breakfast break
  • Continue drive towards Jaon Village (base village of the trek)
  • Final road stretch enters deep valleys and remote Himalayan settlements

On arrival at Jaon:

  • Registration process and medical check-up (if required)
  • Detailed trek briefing by guide team (route, safety, altitude awareness)
  • Introduction to support staff, porters, and camping system

Dinner and overnight stay at Jaon (camp/homestay)

Day 2: Jaon (Baga Sarahan) → Thachdu (12 KM Trek)
  • Start trek from Shinghad Base Camp (Jaon / Baga Sarahan) after breakfast
  • Trek distance: approx. 12 KM

Route details:

  • Trek through Barati Nala (river streams and forest section)
  • Dense pine and deodar forest zones
  • Gradual ascent with multiple rest points

Experience:

Day 3: Thachdu → Bheem Dwar (13 KM Trek)

Overnight stay at Bheem Dwar

Day 4: Bheem Dwar → Shrikhand Kailash Peak → Return (Approx. 24 KM Total)

  • Trek from Bheem Dwar to Shrikhand Kailash Peak

Trek distance:

  • Approx. 12 KM uphill (extremely steep and demanding)

  • Parvati Bagh (alpine meadow zone)
  • Nain Sarovar (sacred water point)
  • Bheem Shilla (massive rock formation)

At the summit:

  • Darshan of Shrikhand Mahadev Shivling

Return journey:

  • Descend back to Bheem Dwar after darshan

Day 5: Bheem Dwar → Thachdu (13 KM Trek)

Route:

  • Steep downhill through rocky sections and forest trails
  • Careful descent due to loose terrain in some stretches

Experience:

  • Return from extreme altitude zone to lower camps

Day 6: Thachdu → Jaon / Baga Sarahan (12 KM Trek)
