Overview

History and Legends of the Panch Kedar Trek

The Panch Kedar Trek is one of the most sacred journeys in the Indian Himalayas, linking five revered temples of Lord Shiva — Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, and Kalpeshwar — all nestled in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region.

According to legend, after the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas sought forgiveness from Lord Shiva for the bloodshed. The Lord, avoiding them, took the form of a bull and disappeared into the earth at Kedarnath. His body parts reappeared at five different places, each sanctified as a Kedar shrine — the hump at Kedarnath, arms at Tungnath, face at Rudranath, navel at Madhyamaheshwar, and hair at Kalpeshwar.

Since then, devotees and trekkers alike undertake this sacred route as a symbol of devotion, repentance, and spiritual awakening. The Panch Kedar Trek not only follows the mythological footsteps of the Pandavas but also offers a deep connection with Himalayan spirituality and timeless legends.
