Overview

History and Legends of the Dodital Trek

Dodital, located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, is a pristine high-altitude lake at an elevation of 3,024 meters. The name “Dodital” is derived from “Dodi,” a rare species of Himalayan trout found in the lake.

According to mythology, Dodital is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ganesha. Legend has it that Goddess Parvati created Ganesha at this very spot while taking a bath. The lake is revered by devotees and is often called Dhundital, meaning the “lake of Ganesha.” Surrounded by dense deodar and oak forests, this trek offers spiritual significance and stunning landscapes, making it a perfect blend of mythology and adventure.
