Kinnaur Kailash Yatra – Overview

The Kinnaur Kailash Yatra is one of the most sacred and challenging pilgrimages in the Indian Himalayas. Located in the beautiful Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, the Yatra leads devotees and trekkers to the revered Kinnaur Kailash Shivling, a naturally formed vertical rock pillar standing at an altitude of approximately 4,650 meters (15,255 feet). According to Hindu beliefs, this sacred peak is the winter abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and holds immense spiritual significance.

The journey begins from Tangling Village near Reckong Peo and passes through dense pine forests, alpine meadows, rocky ridges, and high-altitude mountain terrain. Along the route, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Kinnaur Valley, snow-clad Himalayan peaks, deep gorges, and traditional mountain villages. The final ascent to the Kinnaur Kailash Shivling is steep and demanding, making it both a spiritual pilgrimage and an adventurous trekking experience.

Apart from its religious importance, the Yatra offers an opportunity to witness the rich culture and traditions of the Kinnauri people.
