History and Legends of the Harkidun Trek
Harkidun, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, is known as the “Valley of Gods” due to its deep-rooted connection with Hindu mythology. The valley is said to be the route followed by the Pandavas on their final journey to heaven in the Mahabharata. According to legends, it was here that Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, breathed her last, and the place still reverberates with the spiritual aura of the great epic.
Harkidun also holds significance for being the land where Lord Someshwar is worshipped. The trek offers not just breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks but also a glimpse into the spiritual traditions of the Himalayan villages. The local villagers still uphold ancient customs, and trekkers often come across rustic wooden temples that stand as a testament to the region’s sacred heritage.
